The Confederation of African Football issued sanctions against players from the national team following the events that followed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final match against Nigeria.
On Wednesday, the Algerian Football Federation published a detailed statement summarizing the “CAF” minutes, which stated:
1. Imposing a suspension penalty on the goalkeeper Luca Zidane For two (2) matches, effective during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.
2. Imposing a suspension penalty on the defender Bulgarian companion For four (4) matches, including two (2) suspended matches, this penalty will take effect during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.
3. Imposing a fine on the Algerian Football Association 5.000 US dollars, due to inappropriate behavior by the national team, after five (5) players received yellow cards during the match, in violation of Article 130 (Paragraph A) of the Penal Code of the African Confederation of Football, in addition to a fine of 25,000 US dollars, due to inappropriate behavior by some players and officials after the end of the match, which damaged the image of the match, in violation of Articles 82 and 83 of the Penal Code of the African Confederation of Football.
4. Imposing a fine on the Algerian Football Federation 5.000 One US dollar, due to the use of fireworks by Algerian national team supporters inside the stands.
5. Imposing a fine on the Algerian Football Federation 5.000 US dollars, due to the throwing of projectiles by supporters of the Algerian national team.
6. Imposing a fine on the Algerian Football Association 10,000 US dollars, for not respecting security measures, as a result of some supporters trying to pass the security barriers.
7. Imposing a fine on the Algerian Football Association 50,000 One US dollar, due to insulting and offensive behavior (raising banknotes) by some Algerian supporters towards the match referees.
Following the issuance of these decisions, the Algerian Football Federation immediately initiated the appeal procedures stipulated in accordance with the applicable laws, to object to these sanctions. The Federation also continues to follow this file with the utmost attention, and reaffirms its determination to defend the interests of Algerian football, within the framework of strict respect for regulatory and institutional frameworks.
