The African Confederation postpones the date of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations

The Confederation of African Football has officially postponed the date of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals to next July.

CAF revealed through a media statement: “After talks that brought together the African Confederation with its partners and the International Federation, the Federation decided to postpone the organization of the competition until the period extending from July 25 to August 16, 2026.”

Confederation officials attributed their decision to their keenness to make the competition a success, and to overcome the exceptional circumstances that hindered its holding on its scheduled date.

Last month, the organizing country, Morocco, refused to host the African Cup tournament within its previously set deadlines, i.e. March 17 to April 3, 2026.

The president of the Confederation of African Football, South African Patrice Motsepe, insisted during the executive office meeting in Tanzania; He agreed to fix the date of the competition and denied any possible delay as reported by the media.

Motsepe approached Algeria to gauge the officials’ desire to organize the tournament, but the Algerian Federation rejected this outright, according to French journalist Romain Molina.

The governing office of the continental football body is witnessing a state of tension due to the disputes that have erupted between its various members since the men’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, which Morocco recently hosted.

A division occurred within the highest hierarchy of the Confederation, due to the exclusivity of some members in making executive decisions, which became clear during the continental competition.

The state of chaos is expected to engulf the Secretary-General of the African Union, the Congolese Veron Patrice Mosengo, who holds his position illegally.

The person concerned exceeded the legal age as stipulated in the CAF regulations, which prompted some heads of national federations to demand that Motsepe exclude him.
