Tennis: The Colombian national team is attacked in Morocco

The Colombian tennis team was attacked after the end of one of the men’s singles matches in the qualifying round for the Davis Cup tournament.
The audience present at the Moroccan Sports Federation Tennis Club Stadium in Casablanca did not accept the loss of player Reda El-Banani to his Colombian counterpart, Nicolas Mejia.
The latter celebrated his victory and his country’s qualification in front of Moroccan fans.
Chaos reigned over the dirt-floor stadium, as the crowd threw water bottles at the Colombian national team delegation.
The Colombians withdrew from the sports facility under heavy security, and refused to make statements to the media.

The Moroccan and Colombian teams met in four matches in the first round of the Davis Cup tennis qualifiers.
Reda El-Banani, ranked 563rd in the singles competition, defeated Adria Soriano Parreira with a score of 7-6 7-5 in the first match.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Mejia, ranked 169 in the world, defeated Taha Baadi (576) in two sets to zero (6-3 6-2) in the second confrontation.
The “male” doubles match between Karim Bennani and Younes Lallami against Nicolas Barrientos and Juan Sebastian Gomez ended in favor of the Colombian team in two sets to none (7-6 7-6).
The curtain came down on the confrontations between the two teams with the match between Reda El-Banani and Nicolas Mejia, which the latter won in two sets to one (6-1 4-6 6-2).
It should be noted that the Davis Cup is one of the most ancient tennis competitions, as its beginnings go back to the beginning of the last century (1900).
The competition, organized by the World Football Federation, is limited to national teams, and is held annually.
The United States of America and Australia dominated the championship title, with the first team winning it on 32 occasions, while the second team won 28 championships, and France and Britain ranked third with 10 championships.
For its part, the defending champion, the Spanish national team, won six cups.
