A parliamentary delegation monitors the reality of the health sector in the south

The delegation of the Health Committee of the National People’s Assembly stressed the need to strengthen qualified human resources, accelerate the pace of training, and ensure optimal exploitation of the medical equipment available in the state of Adrar, which will reflect positively on the quality of health services provided to the citizens of the state and neighboring states.
This came on the second day of the inquiry visit of the delegation of the Health, Social Affairs, Labor and Vocational Training Committee to the state of Adrar, in order to monitor the reality of the health sector and evaluate the functioning of the structures and the quality of health services provided through the various facilities of the state.
The committee began its visit at the 240-bed mixed hospital facility, which is an important asset for the state in terms of structures and equipment, as it includes several specialized medical services.
The members of the delegation toured various departments, during which they were briefed on modern medical equipment and listened to comprehensive explanations provided by doctors and managers. However, those in charge of the institution pointed out a number of shortcomings, most notably recorded in the specialized doctors and qualified human resources, which prevent the optimal exploitation of these equipment.
In the 120-bed hospital institution, the members of the mission heard the difficulties facing the managers of this institution, especially those related to the lack of training, the lack of specialized doctors and some necessary equipment. In this context, it was proposed to transfer or direct part of the human and medical staff working in this institution to the 240-bed mixed hospital institution, with the aim of improving its utilization, especially since it has all the necessary capabilities.
The members of the committee expressed their regret for the lack of exploitation of some expensive medical equipment due to the lack of specialized competencies, such as the cardiac catheterization device, which is still out of service due to the lack of specialized doctors to operate it.
After that, the delegation was transported to the cancer control center, which includes 140 beds and about 10 departments equipped with modern medical equipment, supervised by doctors and specialists in treating cancer patients. The visit included several departments, and the members of the delegation recorded the availability of advanced technical devices, such as the accelerator device for radiotherapy, but it has not yet been put into use due to the lack of training of the specialized medical staff, awaiting the programming of training courses abroad.
Specialized doctors raised the problem of archiving and preserving medical documents and data recorded on the devices, in addition to recording observations regarding the mammography device, which does not work with the required efficiency due to the absence of medical image reading devices.
After that, the committee delegation continued its work by visiting the “Ibn Sina” Maternity and Childhood Hospital, where it reviewed the condition of this health facility, which includes several medical specialties and receives a large number of patients from within the state and neighboring states, which caused significant pressure on the medical staff, especially in light of the shortage of resuscitation specialists and some other specialties.
The visit concluded with a visit to the emergency department, which is in the process of being reconstructed, which aims to relieve pressure on neighboring health institutions and improve the process of classifying cases and directing them towards the competent medical departments, ensuring optimal management of emergency services.
