The Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boudjemaa, enumerated the actions that could put holders of Algerian citizenship at risk of being stripped of it, most notably harming state institutions and national unity.
The Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boudjemaa, confirmed in his presentation of the draft citizenship law, today in the National People’s Assembly, that the text of the law related to citizenship came to protect the sovereignty, stability and territorial integrity of the country by expanding the procedures for stripping citizenship, even original ones, according to precisely defined conditions that include harming state institutions, national unity, the unity of the people, state stability, and symbols of the national liberation revolution, or openly carrying out activities hostile to Algeria.
It was also mentioned: loyalty to another country, performing services for another country, accepting money and benefits from another country with the aim of harming the interests of Algeria, working with foreign military or security forces and providing assistance to them to harm Algeria, as well as cooperating with a state or entity hostile to the country, assuming leadership of a terrorist or subversive organization, or propaganda on its behalf.
The Minister stressed that the original nationality will not be stripped unless the person concerned possesses another nationality, unless the matter is related to high treason, communicating with a foreign party, carrying weapons against Algeria, harming the nation’s unity and territorial integrity, as well as belonging in any capacity to terrorist entities and organizations and committing all acts targeting the security of the state.
The Minister touched on the initiative of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, related to settling the situation of Algerian youth who are outside the country and in fragile and illegal situations, saying that it falls within his approach aimed at strengthening the social fabric.
