Atf: Algerian -Somalia relations historical – New Algeria

The Minister of State confirmed, Minister of Foreign Affairs The national community abroad and African affairs, Ahmed Ataf, is that the relations between Algeria and Somalia are historical and derive their strength from the values that bring together the two countries, namely understanding, solidarity and mutual trust.

In a speech after receiving the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation SomaliAbdel Salam Abdi Ali, who came in Algeria on an official visit, today, Sunday, in Algiers, Attaf pointed out that “Algeria’s interest in the situation in the sisterly state of Somalia was never interrupted, and she was the one who has been standing next to it and supporting its efforts in restoring security and stability.”

Attaf highlighted in this regard that Algeria’s standing alongside Somalia “was not circumstantial or passing, but rather a firm and rooted historical position based on the complete conviction of Algeria that Somalia’s security and stability is the security and stability of the African Horn and the entire African continent.”

And that – Attaf says – a position that “reflects the full involvement of Algeria in mobilizing both the African Union and the United Nations, in support of the security and stability of Somalia”, which is embodied today, “Algeria’s commitment to its double location bSecurity Council The UN and the African Peace and Security Council for the pleading for greater solidarity and the most effective support for the efforts of the Somali leadership and its endeavors to complete the fight against terrorism and establish the foundations of security, stability and development in the country.

From this perspective, Ataf congratulated his Somali counterpart on the “considered and qualitative and qualitative” strings that Somalia made on the path of rebuilding strong national institutions and university and retrieving its well -being security and economically and restoring its position as continental and international, indicating that the most indicated this positive movement is the presence of Somalia today in the UN Security Council as an unusual state and as an active party in the group of African members (A3+).

In the context of the gradual return of security and stability in Somalia, Ataf assured his Somali counterpart, Algeria aspires to “strengthen the historical relations that bring together the two countries in its political aspects and economic fields, and even in its human dimensions, by enhancing cooperation in the fields of vocational training and higher education.”

Atf pointed out in the same context that they agreed on the necessity of strengthening the institutional structure of bilateral cooperation and the importance of enriching the legal framework of inter -relations, adding: “This is what we started to embody today, by signing legal texts aimed at mainly to establish a joint government committee, concerned with economic cooperation and developing a mechanism for political consultations as well as encouraging cooperation in the field of diplomats training.”

Determine the areas of bilateral cooperation

We also agreed – at Ataf – on “identifying the areas of bilateral cooperation in light of the needs and priorities of development efforts in the two countries, such as the fields of agriculture, training, higher education and other vital sectors.”

Regarding the multilateral cooperation, he indicated that they expressed “their satisfaction with the advanced level reached by coordination between the two countries while they are undertaking their pledges as non -permanent members of the Security Council.”

And the fact that Algeria and Somalia are the first two Arab countries, African, whose membership coincides with the Security Council, Ahmed Ataf explained that their efforts are targeting – at the Arab level – to defend the central issue of the Arab nation, the Palestinian issue, and today it faces the risk of liquidation.

By virtue of their affiliation with the desert coast and the African century, Ataf stressed that Algeria and Somalia “support everything that would contribute to establishing the pillars of peace, security and stability in these two spaces, on the basis of respecting the sovereignty of states and preserving the sanctity of their lands and not interfering in their affairs, as well as strengthening regional cooperation in combating terrorism and its related crimes of borders and homelands.”

Avoiding the security, political and economic priorities of Africa

On the continental level, the efforts and endeavors of the two countries focus on “pleading and the security, political and economic priorities of Africa, especially in the framework of the A3+ group (…)”, according to Atf.

For his part, the Somali Foreign Minister explained that the deep and established historical relations between the two countries are “a solid basis for building a dynamic and ambitious partnership towards the future,” noting that “for independence and self -determination, both Somalia and Algeria have emerged from the era of colonialism through sacrifices and fixed commitment to freedom.”

In this regard, the minister pointed out that the legal texts signed “will pave the way for the expansion of bilateral cooperation in many fields and open new horizons for growth.

Mutual prosperity and renewed commitment to enhancing diplomatic coordination and consulting at the global level, whether on regional or international platforms.

In this context, he expressed his happiness to convey the message of the President of the Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud and carried it to Algeria for its participation with Ataf, in order to implement it, stressing that “Algeria is a good partner for Somalia in the areas of security, education, trade and regional issues.”
