Benzema once again defends his Algerian country against opponents!

International football star Karim Benzema once again spoke about his Algerian origins and dual identity, in response to repeated campaigns questioning his patriotism and targeting his familial and emotional connection to Algeria, during his appearance on a television program on the French channel LCI.

The Golden Ball winner had announced his vociferous support for the Algerian national team in the African Cup of Nations, where he expressed his great enthusiasm and ambition to crown the people of his mother country with the African Cup.

In the same context, Benzema responded calmly to the criticism that targeted him throughout his career, whether because he did not sing the French national anthem or because of his frank expression of his love for Algeria. He considered that these repeated accusations only reflect the narrow-mindedness of some voices that reject cultural diversity, stressing that respect and good intentions are the true criteria for belonging.

On the other hand, Benzema did not hide his influence by political statements that went so far as to link his name with serious accusations because of his Algerian origins, as happened previously with the statements of French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin. He stressed that such allegations hurt his family and children, but they did not change his principles or his respect for everyone.

From this standpoint, the former French international addressed the issue of identity that has long been raised around him, saying that he does not see any contradiction between his being French, who grew up, educated and played in France, and his Algerian family affiliation, recalling that his father was born in Algeria, and that his roots are an integral part of his personality. Benzema explained that his identity is complex in nature, and cannot be reduced or arranged according to the logic of exclusion or skepticism.

Benzema’s speech also came in conjunction with his public support for Jean-Michel Aulas, former president of Olympique Lyonnais, who is a candidate for the Lyon municipal elections scheduled for March 2026. Benzema, who grew up as a football player in Lyon since the age of eight, stressed that his relationship with Aulas is humanitarian and sporting before being political, stressing his loyalty to the city that witnessed the launch of his professional career.

In the end, Karim Benzema appears as a successful model for the Algerian community abroad, clinging to his roots, proud of his origin, and defending Algeria in the face of distortion attempts, stressing that true belonging is measured by values and behavior, not by assets.
