Algeria-Indonesia: Towards launching an investment project for fertilizer production – New Algeria

The Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, Omar Rakach, received today, Wednesday, at the agency’s headquarters, Sudaryono, Indonesian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, accompanied by a high-level delegation from PT PUPUK INDONESIA, in the presence of a number of agency executives.
According to the agency’s statement, during this meeting, ways to localize the Indonesian company’s project in Algeria were discussed, within the framework of the agency’s strategic direction aimed at attracting foreign direct investment and supporting value-added industrial projects.
PT PUPUK INDONESIA is one of the most prominent industrial groups in Asia, as it is active in the production of fertilizers and pesticides with an annual capacity of approximately 22 million tons, and it has a prominent contribution to achieving self-sufficiency in strategic crops, such as rice and corn, in Indonesia.
This endeavor also comes in the context of enhancing economic cooperation between Algeria and Indonesia, which is ranked among the 20 strongest global economies and first among ASEAN countries in terms of gross domestic product, which gives the project an important strategic dimension.
The prospective project aims to produce fertilizers based on phosphate, nitrogen, urea and ammonia, relying on the experience that the company has accumulated in the field of chemical industries, which would support the national agricultural sector and enhance food security.
This meeting is an extension of the existing cooperation process between the two parties, and the culmination of the communications that began since the agency received representatives of the company in 2024, as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance foreign direct investment in Algeria.
