The medical staff at the Cardiology Department at the University Hospital Center in Oran was able to perform the first two operations in Algeria to treat tricuspid valve insufficiency using the technique “Tree Clip” Advanced technology via catheterization, in a medical achievement that is a precedent at the national level.
The Foundation’s Media and Communications Cell explained on Tuesday that the two surgical interventions were performed on two patients aged 72 and 73 years who were suffering from severe tricuspid valve failure, while their health condition did not allow them to undergo open-heart surgery due to its seriousness.
This modern technology allowed the medical staff to intervene successfully and save the lives of the two patients, while recording an immediate improvement in their health condition and quality of life.
The two operations took place under the supervision of the Head of the Cardiology Department, Professor Nadia’s limpWith the participation of an Algerian medical team, in cooperation with the Italian expert Dr DeMarcoWithin the framework of a scientific partnership aimed at transferring the latest medical technologies to Algeria.
The “Tri-Clip” technique relies on installing a precise clip at the level of the tricuspid valve to reduce reflux and regulate blood flow. It is considered an advanced alternative to open-heart surgery, as it is performed through a small opening in the thigh using a catheter, which reduces the risks of major surgeries.
Professor Laraj Nadia confirmed that this success represents the result of teamwork and continuous development of medical skills within the department, and opens new horizons for heart patients to benefit from accurate and less invasive treatments.
