Strict measures to confront the repeated absences of students during Ramadan

The Ministry of National Education warned of repeated absences of students, especially the final sections of secondary schools, during the holy month of Ramadan, announcing that it was taking deterrent and firm measures.

In this context, the Ministry of Education stressed the need to strictly follow up on the absences of students and teachers, especially students in the final sections of secondary schools, as well as teachers, and to activate the legal and regulatory texts in this regard.

It was stated in a correspondence sent by the Ministry to the directors of education for implementation, as well as the directors of secondary schools for implementation, that “the field inspection related to the attendance of students in educational institutions, especially students in the final sections of secondary schools, revealed unjustified absences, during the second semester, especially at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, and this affects the level of their academic achievement and their readiness for the baccalaureate exam.”

The Ministry confirmed that the subjects of the baccalaureate examination tests are among the lessons scheduled to be completed in the department, and scheduled in the study programmes, calling for continuous monitoring of students’ studies and taking appropriate measures to reduce unjustified absences.

The same correspondence called on secondary school principals to strictly follow up on the absences of students as well as teachers, and to activate legal and regulatory texts in this regard.

On the other hand, the Ministry called on teachers to provide the scheduled lessons regardless of the number of students present in the group, with a commitment to recording these lessons in text books.

Many high schools are witnessing frequent absences of final year students and teachers alike, especially in this holy month, which affects the level of academic achievement and their readiness for the baccalaureate exam.
