Sprinter Djamel Sjati and gymnast Kilia Nemmour were crowned best athlete and best female athlete in Algeria in 2025, after their remarkable international brilliance last year.
Yesterday evening, Tuesday, the best Algerian athletes of 2025, who were crowned in a poll, were honored Algerian News Agency This took place during a ceremony hosted by the “Al-Aurassi” Hotel in Algiers, in the presence of an elite group of political and sports figures, in addition to the athletes, their families, and guests of honor.
The ceremony was attended by the President of the National People’s Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, the Minister of Sports, Walid Sadi, the Minister of Communication, Zouhair Bouamama, the Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues, Soria Moulouji, the Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of the General Directorate of Communication, Kamal Sidi Said, and the Head of the Military Sports Service of the Department of Employment and Preparation of the Staff of the People’s National Army, along with a number of national, sports and media figures, families of the honorees and other guests of honour.
As was the case in the previous edition, gymnast Kilia Nammour and runner Jamal Sjati were crowned the best Algerian athlete for the year 2025.
In his welcoming speech, the Director General of the Algerian News Agency, Samir Kayed, said, “This firm commitment to the message of the founders of the Ibrahim Dahmani Prize comes in fulfillment of Mubarak’s tradition of endeavor and noble goal. We firmly believe that it contributes, and the rest of the efforts of state institutions, to crystallizing, achieving and embodying the meanings of national sovereignty at all levels and in all fields, in response to the requirements of objective meaning and precise goals expressed by a clearly defined policy, Its foundations were consolidated by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.”
Tigers and Sajati as usual
Among women, first place in the poll went to world gymnastics champion Kaylia Nemmour, with 27 votes out of 28, compared to one vote for wrestler Melissa Guendouzi, world champion in the Vovinam Fiat Fu Dao in Indonesia.
Throughout the year 2025, Kelia Nammour has maintained a remarkable presence in the international gymnastics arena, through a series of elegant performances and distinguished results at the highest level, crowning her with numerous titles on prestigious podiums, thereby confirming her stability at the top and her great talent, and consolidating her position among the elite of international gymnastics, while honoring the national colors in various international forums.
Upon receiving the award, Kaylea Nammour said: “I am very happy and honored to have been chosen as the best Algerian athlete for the third year in a row. This award affects me positively and motivates me to continue working to win other titles and honor my country, which constantly supports and encourages me.”
As for men, the runner and vice-world champion in the 800-meter race, Jamal Sajati, topped the voting process with 26 votes, ahead of Al-Fovinam wrestler Daley Ackley, who won two gold medals in the world championships.

In the category of people with special needs (females), the title of best athlete of the year 2025 returned, without surprise, to Paralympian Safia Jalal, who won 23 votes out of 28, ahead of judo wrestler in the deaf category, Sadi Bushra Belinda (3 votes) and her national team colleague Nassima Saifi (2 votes).
Safia Jalal, world shot put champion (57) and world record holder with a throw of 11.67 metres, explained: “I am very happy with this coronation, which I have been aspiring to for a long time.”
As for the category of people with special needs (men), the title of best athlete for the year 2025 went to the Paralympic runner, Walid Farahah, who excelled by winning the first world title in his career, during the World Championships in New Delhi (India), in the ball throw (F32), achieving a record of 39.56 metres.
Farahah received 24 votes, ahead of his colleague Hussein Battir, winner of the World Cup title in powerlifting, and Abdel Rahman Bouhidel, silver medalist at the World Deaf Games in Japan. Farahah said: “My happiness is indescribable with this coronation. It is an unforgettable moment in my career, and this title is the result of a special year for me.”
In the Hopes category, the kayaker Wassim Abdullah Bouguzoula was crowned with 11 votes, ahead of decathlon Walid Touati (6 votes) and judo wrestler Mohamed Moussaoui (5 votes). This crowning rewards an exceptional year for Bouguzoula (18 years old), during which he won three African titles, two individual titles (200m and 1000m K1) and a doubles title in the 500m.
Special tribute to veteran journalists
After announcing that he had won the title of the best Algerian athlete in the Hopes category, Boukazoula said with a sign of emotion evident on his features: “It is an honor and a great surprise. I did not expect to be chosen among all these promising young talents. The recognition I received as the best Algerian athlete in the Hopes category motivates me to make more efforts to represent my country honorably and to strive to achieve other achievements at the international level.”
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Algerian News Agency honored the late Jaafar Yifshou, one of the pillars of Algerian sports, who spent more than a quarter of a century of his life serving national sports.
Five sports journalists who left their mark in the sports media arena were also honoured: Mohamed Zemmour (Algerian Press Agency), Mohamed Najib Boukrdous (Chaab Daily), Yassine Bourouila (Algerian Television), Sakina Boutamin (First Radio Channel) and Kamal Ben Mohamed (Al-Hadaf).
