Signing of the Algerian-Qatari project for milk production – New Algeria

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Youssef Sharfa, and the Minister of Finance, Mr. Laziz Fayed, in the presence of the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Algeria, Mr. Abdulaziz Ali Neama, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatari “Baladna” Company, Mr. Mohamed Moataz Al-Khayyat, supervised the signing. On the Algerian-Qatari project agreement for milk production, with the Qatari company Baladna, which is scheduled to be established in the state of Adrar, and this is at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture..

The agreement aims to create a system of an agricultural nature, to increase the productivity of powdered milk in Algeria, and to reduce the value of imports of the same product, as it will provide 50% of the same material, as well as creating job opportunities for Algerian youth (5,000 positions), in addition to providing red meat in the Algerian market.

The value of the agreement was estimated at $3.5 billion, and it is a project equipped with the latest technologies, with control over all stages of production, including fodder cultivation, cow breeding, and the production of milk and its derivatives.

According to Law 18-22 related to investment, the draft of this agreement has received real estate and financial support, in addition to accompaniment, and everything that falls within the framework of supporting and promoting investment.

The project falls within the framework of the state’s policy regarding food security, especially given the importance of this consumer item in particular. Algeria’s annual needs for milk are estimated at 4 billion litres.
