Security measures for Algeria’s hosting of the International Half Marathon

The Algerian capital is preparing to host a distinguished sporting morning this Friday, November 14, 2025, as the Algeria International Half Marathon will be organized with the participation of about 6,000 runners from inside and outside the country.

This sporting event aims to enhance the capital’s position as a destination for sports tourism and highlight its modern and vibrant image.

On this basis, the local authorities will close a number of main roads to ensure the smooth running of the race, which extends over a distance of 21 kilometers.

The runners will start from the Farahani Stadium in Bab El Oued at 8:30 in the morning, after gathering at seven, to roam the most prominent streets of Algeria before returning to the city center, where the arrival point will be in front of the Algiers state headquarters around midday.

The state authorities announced that the closure of roads will begin gradually from four in the morning and include 16 main roads, including: Zigoud Youssef Street, Hassiba Ben Bouali Street, Mohamed Belouizdad Street, Colonel Amiroush Street, Okhi Brothers Street, First of November Street, Ernesto Che Guevara Street, and Didouche Mourad Street, in addition to May Day Square, Carrefour Oued Kniss Street, and other vital axes that connect Bab El Oued to the center of the capital.

In this regard, the state of Algiers called on citizens, especially those living along the race route, to fully cooperate with the organizing authorities, by avoiding parking cars along the road starting Thursday night, and adhering to the directions of security personnel to facilitate movement and ensure the safety of runners and citizens. It also urges people to contribute to the cleanliness of the city and highlight its beautiful image to foreign visitors and participants.

The authorities confirm that the reopening of the roads will take place gradually after the last runners have passed, noting that the measures are temporary and come within the framework of ensuring the success of the event and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic after the race.

The Algiers International Half Marathon is a prominent annual sporting event that combines competition with the promotion of urban tourism, as it gives participants and the public the opportunity to discover the beauty of the capital between the sea, hills and historical streets in a lively festive atmosphere.

With this event, Algeria reaffirms its commitment to encouraging sports, revitalizing public spaces, and transforming the capital into an open theater that hosts international events that enhance its image as a vibrant city and a promising sports and tourism destination.
