Saihi reviews Algeria’s profound reforms in the field of social security

The Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Abdelhak Sayhi, received, on Monday, the head of the United Nations Population Fund mission office in Algeria, Faiza Bendriss, reviewing the profound reforms that the state has initiated in the field of social security.
During the meeting, Faiza Ben Driss reviewed, according to the same statement, “the practical plan of the United Nations Population Fund, especially in the areas of family planning and control of demographic data, appreciating the efforts made by the Algerian state in supporting the Fund’s programs and the facilities that contribute to embodying this partnership on the ground.”
For his part, the Minister of Labor reviewed, the statement adds, “the profound reforms initiated by the state in the field of social security, stressing that these reforms reflect the commitment of the public authorities to strengthen social protection and consolidate the principle of social justice, highlighting the decision of the President of the Republic to extend maternity leave for working women to five full months, which is a qualitative gain and additional support for the working mother, takes into account the privacy of motherhood and provides a more balanced and stable work environment, in addition to concluding agreements with private clinics to take care of giving birth to women within the framework of Payment system by third parties.
Sayhi also highlighted, according to the same source, “Social Security’s annual contribution to financing public hospital institutions through the hospital budgets, where an important cover entitled 2026 was allocated, which is considered support for public health.”
This meeting, the statement concluded, “was an opportunity to exchange views on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Algeria and the United Nations Population Fund, especially in the areas of social security and social policy development, in line with the state’s priorities in the field of social development and care for the population and the socially insured, especially with regard to the protection of motherhood and childhood in light of the environmental, climate and demographic transformations that the world is witnessing, stressing the importance of strengthening this cooperation and intensifying coordination to confront these challenges in a way that serves sustainable development and social stability.”
