The Minister of Interior, Local Communities and Transport, Al-Saeed Saeed, revealed that his interests are not about to present a finance law that carries with it unjustified increases or impose taxes on citizens, stressing that the goal of the new draft traffic law is to protect citizens from traffic accidents.

In his response to the interventions of representatives of the National People’s Assembly regarding the amendments contained in the draft traffic law, the minister revealed that the drip driving license had not yet been prepared, stressing that it might be ready after a year. He added: “We do not want to intimidate citizens…but the draft traffic law is directed to people who violate the law.” He also admitted that the condition of the roads is one of the causes of traffic accidents, pointing out that speed is also one of those causes, and that anyone can be involved in an accident even if he is the best driver in the world. He continued that deterrence exists in every situation. Countries and the rates of accidents that declined in those countries did not decline due to emotion, but rather due to deterrence.

As for the random deadlines, Saeed said, “More than 70 percent of the random deadlines are carried out by citizens… because everyone does what his opinion dictates to him.” He added in this regard, saying: “We entered into a maze because of these deadlines, and we wrote to the governors in this regard to remove them all.”

Saeed pointed out that there are delays on the highway – unfortunately – and said: “I promise you that this matter will be taken care of in the near future,” stressing that “the delays on the roads are at the heart of the work of the public works departments, not the citizen, and we will re-implement the delays with the necessary specifications.”

The Minister touched on the issue of acquiring new buses, as he renewed the state’s determination to provide all necessary facilities in this regard, noting also that there are no problems with regard to the import of trucks, highlighting that the process of acquiring 10,000 buses will begin in batches, starting next January until March or April.

On the other hand, the same official confirmed that a project related to owners of electronic transportation applications is on the table of the General Secretariat of the government, indicating that the project will be studied next week and transferred to citizens, God willing, stressing the importance of developing new means of transportation to facilitate transportation for citizens, considering that anyone who opposes the idea of transportation applications is crazy.

In another context, the Minister said that there is no retreat from the President of the Republic’s decision to disburse the travel grant estimated at 750 euros. Rather, its legal frameworks have been strengthened to ensure that it is not diverted to other purposes and used by some brokers. Among these solutions – as he said – is the necessity of providing a bank card for the beneficiary so that there can be tracking of the disbursement of this grant.

Saeed also spoke about the great exploitation made by tourist agencies to defraud in order to benefit from the travel grant, and he said, “We carried out many monitoring operations to confirm the purpose of this grant,” highlighting that it was discovered that “the use of 100,000 unemployed people was exploited by these tourist agencies,” which, as he said, are “terrifying numbers that made us stop the crossing of these buses and request a license to cross the Algerian border towards Tunisia, and we did not record the existence of any request for a license.”

In the end, Saioud stressed that in the face of these fraudulent phenomena, “neither Algeria, nor the families, nor Tunisia benefited from this money, but rather it was exploited by brokers and used in areas whose secrets we do not know.”
