Russia demands the immediate release of Maduro and his return to office – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Russia has demanded the immediate release of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his return to office, according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The Foreign Ministry stated that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a phone call with his Belarusian counterpart Maxim Ryzhenkov, during which both sides stressed the need to urgently release the “legitimate” Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, and return them to Caracas, while enabling Maduro to resume his presidential duties immediately.

An official statement issued after the call confirmed that the two ministers stressed the need to put an end to what they described as a blatant violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty, and to work to restore the country’s constitutional path to its normal state.

Moscow and Minsk also expressed their categorical rejection of the military action carried out by the United States against Venezuela, considering it a hostile act that violates the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

The statement added that Lavrov and Rezhenkov exchanged views on the dangerous escalation of the situation in Venezuela, stressing the unity of the position of Russia and Belarus in condemning what they described as illegal aggression against a sovereign state.

The two parties also stressed the importance of taking urgent steps to create the appropriate conditions to resolve the crisis through a comprehensive national dialogue, based on international law and respecting the will of the Venezuelan people.

The Russian Foreign Ministry concluded by emphasizing that any attempts to impose a new political reality from abroad constitute a direct threat to stability in Latin America and the world, calling on the international community to take a unified stance against unilateral policies.
