Ratifying the disputed provisions of the law criminalizing colonialism – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Today, Monday, during a public session chaired by Ibrahim Boughali, Speaker of the Council, representatives of the National People’s Assembly approved the text criminalizing French colonialism in Algeria, after an agreement between the two chambers of Parliament on the controversial provisions.
The session was attended by: Minister of Mujahideen and People of Rights Abdelmalek Tashrift As a representative of the government, WMinister of Relations with Parliament Najiba DjilaliIn addition to members of the government staff.
After listening to the government representative’s presentation, he highlighted: Muhammad Fawzi bin JaballahRapporteur of the Equal-Member Committee, the lofty goals of the text, which are to establish a fair and just legislative approach that preserves the dignity of the Algerian people and preserves their collective memory from attempts to obliterate or distort, and reflects the state’s loyalty to the sacrifices of its martyrs, its mujahideen, and all its victims throughout the various stages of resistance, the national movement, and the struggle for freedom and independence.
Bendjaballah pointed to the great human tragedies left by the colonial era, including systematic violations of rights, forced displacement, expropriation, poverty, Christianization, ignorance, and the obliteration of the cultural and civilizational identity of the Algerian people.
The committee rapporteur concluded by emphasizing that the discussions focused specifically on the provisions in question, which reflects the effort to consolidate the state’s sovereign position in the memory file, and to transform the demand for official recognition of colonial crimes from a moral and symbolic commitment to a clear legal and institutional framework.
