The Minister of Interior, Local Governments and Transport, Al-Saeed Saeed, revealed a number of new reforms to improve railway transport services, including assigning private institutions to guard security at the station level to secure passengers.
Saeed held a framing meeting, which brought him together with the ministry’s executives. At the beginning of its agenda, he discussed an evaluation presentation of the railway transport axis, according to what was approved during the last framing meeting.
The Minister stressed the need to urgently rectify the imbalances recorded at the level of some railway transport lines, such as delays and a number of recorded malfunctions, while working to provide a service that responds to the quality desired by the citizen.
The Minister also directed the need to improve the pace of taking care of the railway goods transport axis and to strive to improve the company’s competitiveness and economic returns.
The Minister gave instructions regarding intensifying surveillance at the level of train stations, as well as at railway crossing barriers, with the aim of curbing uncivilized behavior that affects the security of trains and causes their damage. He directed the Minister to consider delegating security guard services to specialized institutions according to precise terms and conditions, which include a clear definition of responsibilities.
Saeed noted the positive impact that was recorded last summer in strengthening a number of railway lines for the benefit of the citizen, after the reintegration of seven “Coradia” trains that benefited from maintenance and rehabilitation operations. The Minister instructed to accelerate the pace of procedures related to completing the repair and rehabilitation operations of the remaining trains and integrating them into service in the very short term.
The Minister stressed the need to continue the reform approach that was initiated regarding the goods transport axis, in its administrative and structural aspects, especially by adopting the approach of continuous evaluation of economic indicators and forecasting the development of activities, as well as supporting efforts to maintain, develop and modernize the infrastructure and structures related to goods transport in a way that raises the institution’s competitiveness and responds to the requirements of national economic development.
On the other hand, the Minister praised the efforts made in the field of removing sand from the railway lines crossing the southern states, which enabled the achievement of tangible positive results through not recording any cases of flight cancellations (zero cases recorded until October 2025) after it had exceeded a thousand cases annually before the year 2022, and exceeded 570 cases in 2024.
