She also pointed out that national and international experiences have proven beyond doubt that the mass killing of stray animals does not achieve any sustainable results. On the contrary, it creates an environmental vacuum that is filled more quickly by new animals, such as rats and rodents.

Establishing shelters for stray animals

In the same context, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed that it is adopting a modern and sustainable policy in accordance with international standards in dealing with stray animals. This policy is based on sterilization and census programs that aim to sterilize stray animals and then return them to their environment. Which leads to a gradual reduction in numbers, normal formation, and prevention of uncontrolled reproduction. The policy also includes widespread vaccination campaigns against rabies to protect public health and reduce health risks to citizens.

In addition, the Ministry is currently working on establishing designated shelters under the supervision of its veterinary departments to provide temporary shelter for animals. Encouraging responsible adoption, the Ministry also organizes extensive awareness and education campaigns on responsible ownership of animals to prevent animals from being left on the streets.

The Ministry also stated that it is the only one legally responsible for the health and well-being of animals within the framework of its official duties in accordance with the executive decrees in force for that purpose. Any action related to these animals must be carried out exclusively in coordination and prior consultation with the veterinary services affiliated with the Ministry at the state level.
