President Tebboune highlights the importance that Algeria attaches to strengthening constitutional justice. Africa – The New Algeria

Highlight presidentMr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressed the importance that Algeria attaches to strengthening constitutional justice on the African continent, stressing that it remains a support for the continent and a defender of the right of its people to build strong and sovereign institutions, today, Thursday, in Algiers.

In a speech addressed to the participants in the work of the 19th session of the Executive Office of the Conference of African Constitutional Judicial Bodies at the International Conference Center Abdellatif Rahal, delivered by the President of the Constitutional Court, Leila Asalaoui, the President of the Republic affirmed that Algeria, “based on its principled and firm commitment to Africa, remains its support in the various political, legal, institutional and developmental fields and a defender of the right of its peoples to build strong and sovereign institutions.”

Taking into account all of this – the President of the Republic adds – “Algeria attaches all importance to strengthening African constitutional justice, as it is the basic guarantor of the supremacy of the constitution, the independence of the authorities, the protection of rights and freedoms, and the consolidation of stability and peace.”

Regarding Algeria’s hosting of the 19th session of the Executive Bureau of the Conference Judicial bodies The President of the Republic indicated that this comes in a context “in line with its pivotal role in organizing events of a continental nature, including the Intra-Africa Trade Fair and the African Conference for Emerging Enterprises, as they are two basic pillars for achieving economic growth and innovation on the African continent.”

He also stated that the holding of this session falls within “a national context marked in our country by the important initiative represented by the constitutional amendment of 2020, which constituted a turning point in the path of political and institutional reforms and established for the first time in the history of Algeria a constitutional court, an embodiment of our clear will to promote constitutional justice and strengthen the rule of law.”

The President of the Republic stressed that this “paradigmatic transformation contributed to strengthening the independence of the judiciary, consolidating the principle of separation of powers, and directing constitutional oversight mechanisms to strengthen the system of protecting the rights, freedoms, and constitutional guarantees of the citizen.”

In this regard, the President of the Republic highly praised “the continuing efforts made by the Constitutional Court in the field of disseminating constitutional culture, as this is an essential element for building the state of law and promoting the sense of citizenship through training, awareness, and openness to institutions and society.”
