Postponing football activity in the Arab Gulf countries

The Qatar Football Association decided, on Sunday, to postpone all official competitions, especially the Qatar Stars League, for a period that has not yet been determined.

The Kuwaiti and Bahraini federations announced the freezing of official football activities in a similar move as well.

In contrast, the UAE Federation preferred not to stop, as the matches of the 16th round of the Federation Cup were held on Monday and Tuesday.

The Saudi Al-Ittihad followed the same path, as the matches of the second Radja League (Yellow League) will be played.

The Arabian Gulf region is experiencing security turmoil, after the military attacks launched by the United States of America, with the help of the Zionist entity, against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The US Army used its military bases located on Gulf soil to strike Iranian targets, most notably in the capital, Tehran.

The raids resulted in the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, early this morning.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard responded by bombing security sites in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

The AFC is moving

AFC officials did not stand idly by regarding the exceptional security events taking place in the Arab region.

The Continental Confederation officially announced the postponement of the first-leg matches of the AFC Champions League Elite round, for the Western Region, which were scheduled for March 2 and 3.

The President of the Kuwait Football Association, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, wrote to the President of the Asian Confederation, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, demanding that football activities be frozen until the security situation stabilizes.

Several Gulf countries closed their airspace, prompting the Asian Football Confederation to speed up the postponement decision.
