Sharqi is not ready yet
Paris FC defender Samir Chergui has been training individually since the start of the preparatory camp ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The player has not yet integrated into the group, as he joined Algeria while suffering from an injury to the posterior thigh muscle.
Sharqi represents one of coach Petkovic’s five options in the defense axis.
Previous friendly matches demonstrated the player’s ability to occupy the right-back position.
He can also play in midfield, having been trained within the Auxerre academy in the recovery position.
Sharqi’s statistics in the French League for Paris FC show his ability to adapt to many positions, as he combines defensive solidity and good handling of the ball.
Samir played 12 matches in League 1 this season, 11 of which were in the starting lineup.
Sharqi was able to touch the ball on 664 occasions, recording 494 passes, with a success rate of 89 percent.
He also managed to score a goal against Nantes in the ninth round.
The next 48 hours will be decisive in determining whether or not Sharqi will travel to Morocco, as the team’s transfer is scheduled for December 19.
It is possible that Petkovic will drop Sharqi’s name and use another from the expanded list, as allowed by the African Confederation’s regulations.
