Parties are striving to return to the forefront and playing on important files – New Algeria

Political parties have returned to activity strongly in recent days, coinciding with the approaching date of the legislative elections, and even those that have disappeared and practiced boycotts since the popular movement have returned to the forefront of the scene with their outputs and statements.

The education sector and traffic law are the most prominent party files

The parties in the country have begun their preparations for the upcoming electoral elections, as their leaders begin organizing their gatherings across the various states of the country and also activating regional meetings and events. Some have even begun neighborhood meetings to listen to citizens’ concerns.

It is noticeable that the Workers’ Party, which had almost disappeared in previous years, has returned to the forefront through the resumption of its General Secretary, Aouiza Hanoun, her regular popular gatherings across a number of states, as well as her supervision of the meetings of the party’s national office, including delving into various issues of concern to the popular and working groups, such as the issue of employment in the national education sector and the issue of contractors.

While driving The Secretary-General of the National Democratic Rally went out to meet citizens, listen to their concerns, and discuss the latest developments in the arena with them, similar to the visit that led him to the state of Qasr al-Bukhar, where he touched on the content of the traffic law and also the high prices of some materials.

Chaikalat focuses on organizing its bases

Many of the political formations concerned with the upcoming legislative elections are focusing on structuring the party and organizing it internally before the next election. In this regard, the parliamentary representative and leader of the National Construction Movement, Abdelkader Breish, confirmed in a statement to “elhiwar us” that their party is currently working on organizational restructuring at the national level, as well as restructuring the state and municipal offices and other necessary arrangements.

In turn, the Movement for Society for Peace gave priority to organizing its bases, as it began its activities and forums to mobilize its energies. It recently organized the activities of a regional youth forum for the southeast, as well as open internal sessions with the movement’s frameworks in a number of states.

While the Justice and Development Front is working to expand the base of its activists, it has allocated a link for citizens to join its ranks.

Apathy and neglect on social media

Although the parties focus on important files related to citizens and publish their various activities and the statements of their leaders on their pages on social networking sites, browsing the latter reveals apathy and neglect on the part of the pioneers of these sites regarding this, with the exception of some interaction with controversial statements.

Professor Hakim: The arena was vacant and the people became focused on the official

Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Professor Samir Hakim, said in a statement to “elhiwar us” that the political arena in Algeria has experienced a great vacancy and vacuum for years, which makes it difficult for parties to return to the scene and attract the attention of citizens, pointing out in the context that the mentality and interests of Algerians have changed, as they are not currently focusing on political discourse, but rather are waiting for the discourse from its official dimension, represented by the Presidency of the Republic and government bodies.

In his reading of the political scene, our interlocutor stated, “What we are witnessing in terms of political action within the general scene of Algeria is that many of the political parties have disappeared and are no longer present in the arena, while some have been able to consolidate and position themselves in the recent period, such as the parties of the National Construction Movement and the Socialist Forces Front, which were able to present a discourse and project vision… but it was not empowered in popular circles, and here is the problem.”

The professor of political science and international relations warned that the parties that began to appear during electoral periods no longer have any discourse that adapts and harmonizes with the mentality of the Algerian people in light of the recent developments – according to him – explaining that the public mentality no longer focuses much on the political dimension, but rather on the developmental and economic dimension.

Professor Samir Hakim believes that the vacancy in the political arena in Algeria in the previous period was met with the rise of some serious actors after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune took over the reins of power, such as civil society actors, youth, and some advisory bodies that rely on scientific foundations more than political ones, which, according to him, makes it difficult for the parties to return and attract popular attention.
