Parliament votes unanimously on a proposed law criminalizing colonialism

On Wednesday, the Algerian Parliament held a public session during which votes were held on the draft basic law for the judiciary, the draft law specifying the general rules related to trust services for electronic transactions and electronic identification, the draft traffic law and the draft proposal to amend the law amending and supplementing the order containing the Algerian nationality law, in addition to a draft proposed law criminalizing colonialism in Algeria.
Members of Parliament voted unanimously on a proposed law aimed at criminalizing colonialism, in a step described as historic that reflects the national will to preserve the historical memory of the Algerian people and safeguard their rights.
This vote came during a public public session chaired by Ibrahim Bougali, President of the National People’s Assembly, and attended by members of the government and a number of officials, where the proposal was discussed extensively before it was unanimously adopted, becoming an important legal step towards confronting the effects of colonialism and ensuring official recognition. of crimes committed during that period.
The representatives of the Council also ratified the organic law related to the Basic Law of the Judiciary, which aims to improve the functioning of the judicial facility. This law enshrines the supervision of the Supreme Judicial Council in all professional and disciplinary issues related to the judge, by assigning the Supreme Judicial Council exclusively to manage the professional path of the judge. It also requires the creation of new judicial positions qualified for promotion to work in the Supreme Court and the State Council, and giving the Supreme Judicial Council the power to assign them to them. This relates to the position of Assistant Judge.
In the axis of enhancing the independence of judges and preserving the honor of the judiciary, the law specifies the criteria for transferring judges and the possibility of requesting transfer within the framework of the annual movement of judges or for objective reasons.
Representatives of the Council also approved the draft traffic law aimed at enhancing traffic safety and regulating traffic. The text includes a set of rules aimed at reducing accidents, raising the level of traffic awareness, and tightening penalties for serious violations to ensure the protection of lives and property, while combining awareness and deterrence in order to reduce the number of accidents and their victims.
In its aspect related to imposing responsibility, the draft law enshrines the principle of imposing criminal and civil liability on all parties involved in traffic accidents, based on investigations by the competent security services.
On Thursday, the National Assembly will hold a public session that will be devoted to asking oral questions to a number of members of the government. A statement from the Council explained that the oral questions concern the sectors of higher education, scientific research, national education, as well as agriculture, rural development, marine fishing, public works, and basic facilities.
