Preparations are underway to celebrate, for the first time in Algeria, the Arab Deaf Week “in its 49th session” for the year 2024 at the Higher School for Teachers of the Deaf and Dumb in Beni Messous.

The professor confirmed Zaqar Fathi Director of the Higher School for Teachers of the Deaf and Dumb, Beni Messous, said that it was decided to celebrate this year the Arab Deaf Week in its 49th session of 2024. This celebration will be the first of its kind in the history of Algeria, from Tuesday, April 23 to April 26, 2024, at the school’s headquarters, and will include a number of events, most notably the signing of a framework agreement. For cross-sector partnership Ministry of National Solidarity Family and women’s issues and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

In addition to the launch of the second national forum on the importance of national programs in achieving the school, professional and social integration of people with hearing disabilities in Algerian society, under the chairmanship of Professor Zubadi Nasser Al-Din. With the provision of an intensive course in teaching sign language for three days at the Intensive Center for Teaching Sign Language, with the aim of educating the community and introducing them to the alphabets of sign language.

In addition, a special art exhibition for people with hearing disabilities will be opened, including special pavilions with artistic creations and craft products made by the deaf and dumb category. Organizing open doors around the school. In addition to honoring the associations active in the field of the deaf and hard of hearing in Algeria, and organizing the first edition of the Sign Language Challenge Competition. Certificates of thanks and appreciation will be distributed to the teachers who played an effective role in highlighting the activities Students Continuous attention and diligent work to advance this segment to distinguished levels.

The schedule of preparations and activities also included training workshops for school students and many cultural, artistic and recreational activities. A workshop on hearing disability and hearing aids and a visit by a delegation from schools for the deaf (Baraki School, Telemli School, Rouiba School) with the aim of exchanging experiences and learning about experiences in caring for the deaf group.

It should be noted that the Arab Deaf Week was launched in implementation of the recommendations of the Second Conference of the Arab Union of Organizations Working with the Deaf, which was held in Damascus from April 24 to 26, 1974. Every year, during the last week of April, the Arab countries organize a week called “Deaf Week” under a unified slogan. It is chosen in coordination with the Arab Union of Organizations Working with the Deaf, and then it is celebrated in all Arab countries.

With the aim of introducing and preventing deafness, means of educating and rehabilitating the deaf person, and channels of linguistic, speech, and gestural communication with his peers, family, and individuals. Enabling deaf and hard-of-hearing people and their associations to play an active and positive role in the social development process.
