One million “GPL” cars by the end of the year, and 30 oil stations will enter service in 2023 – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryia

The head of the Fuel Control Authority (ARH), Rachid Nadil, revealed that the stock of cars used for liquefied petroleum gas in Algeria will rise to nearly one million cars at the end of the current year, after converting 100,000 cars during 2022 within the framework of the national program to upgrade this fuel.
Mr. Nadel explained, “The pace of converting vehicles to LPG-fuel is witnessing a remarkable improvement and development, as 850,000 cars have been converted since the beginning of this process in Algeria, at a rate of about 100,000 cars each year, at an estimated cost of 70,000 DZD per car.” He pointed out that there are 1285 points of sale for this fuel at the national level.
And during 2022, the conversion of 100,000 cars allowed to save 900,000 tons of gasoline, according to the official.
Among the measures motivating the adoption of this measure, is the cancellation of the payment of the voucher for the converted cars, the reduction of the value-added tax rate (9 percent) for all conversion equipment to this fuel, as well as the creation of a significant difference between the price of the petrol pump (at a rate of 32 DZD / per liter). ) and that of LPG-fuel (9 DZD/per liter).
Nadel added that the authority aspires to raise this number, by intensifying awareness campaigns for the benefit of citizens, in addition to reducing crew and installation costs to encourage the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel, which allows saving significant quantities of gasoline in addition to the environmental factor.
The entry of 30 oil stations into service in 2023
On the other hand, the Director of Economic Control at the Fuel Control Authority, Samir Houklaun, revealed that 30 oil service stations entered service during the current year, bringing the total number to 2580 stations across the country.
And, the official explained that the Fuel Control Authority has processed 585 license requests to launch storage and distribution activities of petroleum products, as well as to establish manufacturing and storage units for lubricating oils and oil renewal in 2022.
Of this total number, 290 applications were approved, of which 47 licenses were granted for projects in the field of manufacturing and wholesale distribution of lubricants and regeneration of used oils (19 final licenses and 28 temporary licenses).
He added that during the same period, the Fuel Control Authority also issued 242 licenses to carry out storage and distribution activities for petroleum products, of which 134 are final licenses.
With regard to fuel distribution, the Fuel Control Authority registered in 2022 about 108 licenses for this activity, of which 30 are final and 78 are temporary, according to the same official.
Mr. Hawqlan emphasized that the study and granting of these licenses is carried out according to the national plan for the development of hydrocarbon refining and conversion facilities, which was assigned to study by a special sectoral committee.
