The World Bank revealed in a new report entitled “Assessment of Material Damage and Reconstruction in Syria 2011–2024” that the cost of rebuilding Syria is estimated at approximately 216 billion US dollars, after more than 13 years of war.
The report indicated that the destruction affected about a third of the national capital before the war.
While direct damage to infrastructure, residential and non-residential buildings amounted to $108 billion, of which infrastructure was the most damaged at 48%.
The bank explained that the cost of rebuilding the damaged assets ranges between 140 and 345 billion dollars.
Distributed into 75 billion for residential buildings, 59 billion for non-residential buildings, and 82 billion for infrastructure.
With Aleppo and Rural Damascus governorates topping the list of the most affected areas.
The World Bank affirmed its readiness to support recovery and reconstruction efforts in cooperation with the international community.
Noting that reconstruction costs are equivalent to about ten times the expected Syrian gross domestic product for the year 2024,
This reflects the scale of the economic and humanitarian challenges facing the country.
