The Algiers state authorities confirmed that no deaths were recorded as a result of the collapse, on Saturday, of half a 4-storey building in the municipality of Hussein Dey, noting that the case is the subject of an in-depth security investigation to uncover the circumstances of the accident, after which appropriate legal measures will be taken.

The state’s statement explained that “around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, the collapse of half of a building consisting of ground + 4 floors located at address 6, Rabeh Moussaoui Street in the municipality of Hussein Dey was recorded, as four floors of the right part of the building were completely collapsed,” and as a result, “the security services of the state of Algiers moved to the site of the accident and secured all entrances and roads leading to it, while defining a security perimeter to ensure the safety of citizens.”

The civil protection teams of the Algerian state also intervened, and “one injured person was transferred to Mustafa Pasha University Hospital to receive treatment, and no death was recorded,” the source adds.

Following this incident, the Minister and Governor of Algiers, Mohamed Abdel Nour Rabhi, was immediately transferred to the site to monitor the progress of the rescue operation and ensure the safety of citizens, in the presence of the head of state security, the governor delegate of the administrative district, Hussein Dey, and the mayor.

“The residents of the building were taken care of and transferred temporarily to a hotel in the municipality of Hussein Dey, in addition to the families occupying two adjacent buildings, a total of 27 families, as a precaution, pending the results of the technical expertise report of the Building Technical Monitoring Center,” which is present at the site to assess the situation.

Preliminary data indicate “the existence of a private real estate upgrade project that has a building permit No. 40 AD 2025 dated 11/05/2025 issued by the Hussein Dey municipal authorities, where the contractor carried out excavation work at a depth of approximately 4 meters adjacent to the structure of the building where the fall occurred, which may have caused the accident.”

Initial data also indicate that “the three buildings were in good condition as they were restored by the state’s authorities during the past year within the framework of the program to restore and rehabilitate old buildings in the capital,” the source added, noting that the case “is the subject of an in-depth security investigation to uncover the circumstances of the accident, after which appropriate legal measures will be taken.”
