National Assembly: A special issue of “Parliamentary Thought” documents the crimes of French colonialism in Algeria – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

“Parliamentary Thought” magazine, issued by the National Assembly, issued a special issue for the month of January, devoting it to highlighting the crimes of French colonialism in Algeria during the period extending from 1830 to 1962.
This issue came under the title “A token of loyalty and appreciation for the great sacrifices of the Algerian people over more than 130 years,” as it relied on historical and academic approaches presented by historians and professors, which dealt with the criminal practices committed by French colonialism against the Algerian people, their land, and their capabilities, as confirmed by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Azouz Nasseri.
The publication dealt, across four main axes, with colonial crimes in their social dimensions, in addition to crimes of psychological genocide, mechanisms of terrorism, attempts at Algerian self-destruction, and environmental genocide resulting from nuclear explosions, as well as holding the French occupation responsible for these crimes from the perspective of international law.
The issue also included documentary images that reflected the various forms of genocide to which the Algerians were subjected, especially those linked to the massacres of May 8, 1945, and the French nuclear tests in the Algerian desert.
In the introduction to the issue, the French colonial campaign was described as one of the longest and most violent campaigns in contemporary history, given its settlement and destructive nature that aimed to dismantle the social structure, erase national identity, and seize land and resources.
The magazine emphasized that addressing the crimes of French colonialism constitutes a strong message that Algeria does not forget its history and does not accept the obliteration of its memory, in a national context characterized by the dynamism witnessed by the new Algeria, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who attaches special importance to the memory file.
