“NatCom” mobilizes to remove waste during Ramadan – New Algeria

The head of the communication and development department at the Algerian State Hygiene Foundation, “Natcom,” Nassima Yacoubi, revealed a special program for the month of Ramadan, during which household waste doubles.
She said Nassima Yacobi In a statement to the Algerian News Agency, the Cleaning Corporation for the State of Algeria, “NatCom,” employed 4,500 workers and 390 trucks, on the occasion of the holy month, in order to intensify the operations of removing waste and cleaning public spaces across the various municipalities within its jurisdiction, adding that a special program had been set up and began to be implemented before the advent of this month, by cleaning markets, the vicinity of mosques, and entertainment spaces, such as the Al-Sablat Park and the Park. The official indicated that this program takes into account the peculiarities of this month, represented by an increase in the amount of waste removed, by a rate that may reach 18 percent compared to normal days, (from about 1,100 tons per day to about 1,300 tons), which she attributed primarily to food waste.
According to the spokeswoman, the Foundation has allocated “considerable material and human resources, consisting of 4,500 workers and 390 trucks of various types, including waste trucks, mechanical sweeping machines, and road washing trucks, in addition to strengthening the barn with 1,500 additional containers, including containers designated for collecting bread, which is on the rise during this occasion.”
In this regard, Yaqubi stated that the year 2025 recorded “the lifting of 15 tons of bread,” pointing out that the latter requires special treatment and cannot be mixed with bread. Household waste Ordinary, which requires harnessing additional capabilities to raise them separately.
She also explained that work during this holy month will take place on a 24-hour shift system, with intensified interventions, with the aim of preventing the accumulation of waste and maintaining the cleanliness of the surroundings.
As for the awareness-raising aspect, Ms. Yaqoubi stated that “NatCom” launched an awareness campaign twenty days before the month of Ramadan, in order to urge citizens to rationalize consumption and reduce the phenomenon of waste, due to its negative effects on the economic, environmental and health aspects.
She also recalled that the accumulation of waste, of which more than 50 percent is organic matter, leads to its decomposition and the spread of unpleasant odors and insects, which constitutes a threat to public health and distorts the general view. She called on citizens and merchants to respect waste removal times and use appropriate bags, taking care to sort them, in order to facilitate the work of sanitation agents and ensure the cleanliness of the surroundings during the holy month.
