The Minister of the Interior, Local Governments and Urban Development, Ibrahim Murad, announced on Saturday in the state of Mostaganem the launch of the construction of 350 neighborhood centers for intermediate storage of grains across the country.
Murad, who was accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Mokhtar Didouch, and the Minister of Environment and Renewable Energy, Fazia Dahlab, said during his laying of the foundation stone for the completion of the first center of this kind in the municipality of Wadi Al-Khair, that the completion of these facilities across 34 states came “in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which aims to achieve food sovereignty for Algeria.”
The Minister stated that the governors of the Republic are currently working on completing the procedures related to the completion of these facilities, which will enable strengthening national capabilities for storage, ensuring food security, and reducing imports.
Regarding the Wadi Al-Khair center, which will be completed within six months and will be operational during the harvest and threshing campaign for the next agricultural season, the minister said that it can accommodate 5,000 tons of grain and is one of the five centers in the state of Mostaganem. It is located near productive areas and is capable of expansion.
The cost of completing these five centres, for which locations in Wadi El Khair, Bouguirat, Estidia, Sidi Ali and Sidi Bel Attar were chosen, amounts to more than 1 billion and 264 million DZD, according to the explanations provided.
On the other hand, the Minister of Interior, Local Communities and Urban Development and his accompanying delegation supervised the inauguration of the “Salamander” waterfront in the state capital, which was prepared within 45 days.
He also visited the Mosta Land amusement and entertainment park in the city of Mostaganem and listened to a presentation about the investment model of this state institution.
It is expected that the Minister and his accompanying delegation will inaugurate the “Dunes” beach in the municipality of Mazagran, which is one of the 14 new beaches that opened this year in the state, in addition to supervising the opening of the 2024 summer summer season in the same location.
