Ministerial decision: prohibiting the sale of vegetables and fruits with excess dust and branches – New Algeria

The Algerian Organization for Consumer Protection and Guidance announced, in a statement today, Saturday, that the joint ministerial decision regulating the characteristics and conditions of the display of fresh vegetables and fruits will come into effect starting next March 2026.
According to the statement, this measure comes in implementation of the decision issued in the Official Gazette on March 26, 2025, in which the Ministries of Trade, Agriculture, Interior and Industry participated in preparing it, to put an end to commercial practices that were burdening the consumer with an excessive and useless weight.
The new decision also obliges all merchants and distributors to display vegetables and fruits in a completely clean condition, free of dust, stones, and plant residues, while preventing the sale of parts that are not fit for consumption, such as excess leaves and long stems that unjustly increase the weight of the commodity, except in cases necessary to protect the product from damage.
In the same context, the organization called on consumers to exercise their right to monitor and report any violations that violate these new technical standards through the “Ashki” application or by calling the green number 3311.
