Maya Fadel Saheli was elected today, Thursday, President of the National Council for Human Rights in Algeria, during an official ceremony held at the headquarters of the Supreme Court in the capital, in the presence of the First President of the Court, Tahar Mamouni, and the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boudjemaa.

The members of the new composition of the Council were inaugurated, as Mamouni announced during the opening session the election of Sahel with the recommendation of the majority of the Council members, in accordance with the provisions of Law 12_13 of November 3, 2016 and Presidential Decree 109_26 of March 3, 2026.

The establishment of the National Council for Human Rights comes in the context of strengthening the protection of human rights in Algeria, as the Council is responsible for monitoring respect for rights, submitting reports on violations, and investigating them in cooperation with regional and international bodies.
