Major maintenance of the motorway network starting next week – New Algeria

Today, Sunday, the Minister of Public Works and Basic Installations, Abdelkader Glaoui, issued instructions and directives requiring the launch of all projects included in the sector’s program for the year 2026, especially a major operation to maintain the network. The same statement explained that these instructions came during a working meeting chaired by the Minister, devoted to presenting the outcome of the activities of the bodies under the supervision of the sector’s projects for the year 2025, as well as their work plan for the year 2026, in the areas of highways, railways, guided transportation, and basic port facilities.

During the meeting, presentations were made on the most prominent programs and projects supervised by the sector’s bodies, where the Annaba Port expansion project was discussed, which includes the completion of a mining quay within the framework of the project. The outcome of the Algerian Highway Company and the East-West highway maintenance programs were also presented, in addition to the outcome of the National Agency for Studies and Follow-up of the Completion of Investments in Railways and its program for the year 2026.
By the way, the Minister of Public Works and Basic Establishments stressed a set of instructions and directives, in the field of highways, on the necessity of accelerating the pace of completion of ongoing projects and respecting Contractual deadlinesWith the intensification of maintenance operations, especially at the level of the East-West highway, and ensuring its sustainability, in addition to reviving stalled projects according to established priorities, and overcoming field obstacles, with strict adherence to quality and safety standards.

In the field of railways, Minister Glaoui stressed the acceleration of the completion and receipt of structured projects, the launch and completion of studies programmed within the 2026 programme, and the continuation of the railway network calibration operations, with close follow-up of the eastern mine line project linking Annaba and Bilad Al Hadba in the state of Tebessa, while strengthening field follow-up and completion of railway crossings.

In the field of directed transportation, the Minister gave instructions to accelerate the pace of completion of directed transportation projects while improving coordination between the various stakeholders.

While he stressed the acceleration of the pace of completion of the Annaba Port expansion project, which includes the completion of the mining berth included within the integrated phosphate project, while respecting completion deadlines and ensuring field follow-up and adherence to quality standards, with regard to basic port facilities.

On the other hand, the Minister emphasized, regarding the National Authority for Technical Supervision of Public Works, the strengthening of technical oversight mechanisms, ensuring that the works conform to the approved standards, while preparing a unified technical reference guide and the training program for the year 2026.

The Minister continued to issue instructions requiring the necessity of equipping the Technical Institute for Public Works and Research in Ain Defla, and installing a working team to prepare a plan and programs for training and research, stressing the necessity of relying on digital platforms in following up on projects and administrative management, and accelerating modernization.
