On Thursday, the leader of the “Greens”, Riyad Mahrez, published on his account on the “X” website (formerly Twitter), a touching message in which he bid farewell to the former national team coach, Djamel Belmadi.
The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) dismissed Belmadi about two months ago, after being eliminated from the group stage of the African Cup of Nations, which was held in Ivory Coast.
Andbooks Mahrez, currently a Saudi Al-Ahly player: “Everything you did made people proud… Thank you for everything, Jamal.”
The former English Manchester City star added: “Despite this failure in the last African Cup of Nations, we will never forget the title in Egypt, the second star it gave the country and 35 matches without defeat.” I will also never forget all the hard work you did over the 6 years especially the love you had for the Algerian flag, everything you undertook you accomplished you made people proud. thank you my brother”.
Thank you for all Djamel. Money will come to your home if, on a Friday call in Egypt, the 2-hour meal you pay for ramen and 35 matches without default. I don’t have much money to share with you as it has been going on for 6 years and it’s almost the same time as you… pic.twitter.com/Wnypln0sQn

It is noteworthy that the relationship between captain Mahrez and his coach Belmadi was very excellent, as the latter defended his player after he faced sharp criticism from the Algerian public, following his poor performance in the recent African Championship.
This failure that faced Belmadi and his players in Ivory Coast was a reason for “FAF”, through its president, Walid Sadi, to take an urgent decision to disengage with Belmadi, as it was the second consecutive exit for the Greens from the first round after the bitter elimination in Cameroon two years ago, not to mention the failure to reach Qatar 2022 World Cup Finals.
Last week, FAF announced the contract with Bosnian coach Vladimir Petkovic until 2026.
