Mabulhi retires

The historic goalkeeper of the first national football team, Rais Wahab Mbolhi, decided to retire after a professional career that spanned two decades.

Mbolhi chose to stop permanently two months before he turned forty, and in the absence of a sports project that met his ambitions.

The 96-member international player, accompanied by Al-Khader, had his last professional experience with Esperance Mostaganem, which did not exceed three months.

Before that, M’Bolhi carried the colors of CS Belouizdad for one season, after which he left without being able to find a team.

Rais Wahab Mbolhi was born to a Congolese father and an Algerian mother, in the French capital, Paris, on April 25, 1986.

He began his career in the world of football with Racing Paris, where he learned the ABCs of the game and then moved seven years later to Olympique Marseille.

The goalkeeper found the opportunity to appear in the elite leagues away from France, after he was brought in by Scottish club Hearts.

His career was not stable later, as he constantly traveled, becoming a professional in Greece, Japan, Russia, then France, the United States of America, Turkey, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In contrast, he was called up to the first national team in May 2010 during the era of coach Rabah Saadane; A glimmer of hope for Rais Wahab Mbolhi.

Since then, his career has changed 360 degrees, as a mistake committed by first-choice goalkeeper Fawzi Chaouchi in the first match of the 2010 World Cup against Slovenia caused; In getting the opportunity to highlight his potential.

Mbolhi then succeeded in convincing the coaches and fans to write his name in golden letters in the Greens’ record.

The goalkeeper contributed to the first team winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, and also won the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar championship with the reserve national team in 2021.
