Learn about the new postage stamp – New Algeria

Belmehdi praised “the issuance of such a postage stamp that commemorates the Rhodesian Qur’an, in a spiritual atmosphere that coincides with the last ten days of the blessed month of Ramadan,” adding that the Rhodesian Qur’an “is considered one of the most prominent scientific and religious symbols in Algeria, as it is considered the first Qur’an printed in the country, and it is known in a number of African countries as the Algerian Qur’an, because of the peculiarity it carries in the Maghreb-Algerian script that scholars and ancestors have preserved.”

He continued by saying that “this Qur’an received special care, as it was reprinted by order of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the context of commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the restoration of national sovereignty, so that it once again became one of the symbols of independent Algeria and loyalty to its religious authority and national identity.”

In addition, Belmehdi highlighted in the same context that “this Qur’an is widely distributed inside and outside Algeria, especially in the Sahel countries and Africa, in response to the great interest in it and the specificity of its script and its scientific heritage.”

The Minister also stressed that “the issuance of this postage stamp is a symbolic gesture that commemorates one of Algeria’s achievements in the field of its religious and cultural identity. It also reflects the role of the post in documenting bright moments in Algeria’s history and introducing its cultural treasures.”

For his part, Zerrougui said, “The launch of the symbolic postage stamp for the Algerian Qur’an constitutes a new station in the process of valuing this religious and cultural landmark, especially in these blessed days of the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan.”
