Lavrov: Implementing the Trump plan is the beginning of the path towards a Palestinian state

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state must take place after the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s plan for the Gaza Strip, noting that Moscow sees the plan as “the best option currently on offer,” but it does not represent a final solution to the Palestinian issue.

Lavrov’s statements came during a meeting with Arab journalists in Moscow, according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday.

The Russian minister explained that Trump’s plan is limited to the Gaza Strip, and includes general references to the idea of a state, but it does not specify the status of the West Bank, stressing that Russia is committed to United Nations resolutions that stipulate the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.

Lavrov stressed that the full implementation of the Gaza plan must be followed by the start of practical steps to establish the State of Palestine in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

Adding that Russia will continue to support efforts aimed at implementing these decisions and ensuring stability in the region.

He also expressed his hope for the success of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, held today in Egypt,

Which is examining ways to stabilize the truce and activate the first phase of Trump’s plan,

Based on a ceasefire and a gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army,

The exchange of prisoners, and the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip.

The plan also stipulates the formation of a Palestinian technocratic committee to temporarily manage Gaza, with follow-up by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey and under American supervision.
