The Minister of National Education, Mohamed Saghir Saadaoui, supervised, on Saturday, at the Hussein Ait Ahmed Secondary School in Bab Ezzouar (Algiers), the launch of the national competition to select the team that will represent Algeria in the International Olympiad of Astronomy and Astrophysics for the 2026 session, with the participation of 16,298 students.
In a statement to the press, the Minister considered that this competition constitutes an appropriate opportunity for students to highlight their abilities in the field of scientific competition in order to participate in this international event for astronomy and astrophysics.
Saadawi explained that this national competition witnesses the participation of 16,298 students distributed among 127 centers, stressing, by the way, the education sector’s keenness to support such competitions that allow Algerian competencies to highlight their capabilities in various specializations.
It is noteworthy that this competition is for mathematics and physics students studying in public and private educational institutions and the nation’s youth schools who obtain a semester average between the mathematics and physics subjects equal to or greater than 17 out of 20, for the sections of the second and third years of secondary school in the mathematics, mathematics technical and experimental sciences divisions.
On the other hand, the Ministry of National Education decided to open the filing of applications to benefit from the retirement pension before the legal age for the benefit of employees who meet the conditions specified by law, during the period extending from 08 February until 15 next March, according to what was reported today, Saturday, in a statement by the Ministry.
The same source explained that “in implementation of the provisions of Law No. 25-09 of July 19, 2025, supplementing Law No. 83-12 of July 2, 1983 relating to amended and supplementary retirement, as well as the provisions of Executive Decree No. 26-74 of January 14, 2026, which specifies the conditions and modalities for employees belonging to some branches of national education to benefit from a retirement pension before the legal age, the Ministry of National Education, in Within the framework of optimal care for its employees concerned with the provisions of the new legal texts, it was decided, as an exception, to open the door for submitting applications to benefit from a retirement pension before the legal age for the benefit of employees who meet the conditions specified by law, who reach the age of 57 years for men and 52 years for women, on August 31, 2026.
The files will be deposited “during the period extending from February 8 to March 15, 2026, which is the last date for this, provided that no application submitted after this date will be accepted,” as stated in the statement, which added that “the files are deposited at the level of the educational institutions in which the concerned parties exercise their duties.”
