Within the framework of the launch of the national campaign for vaccination against seasonal influenza for the year (2025-2026), the Director General of Prevention and Health Promotion, Dr. Jamal Fourar Accompanied by the Director General of the National Institute of Public Health, Professor Abderrazak Bouamra, today, Tuesday, at the opening of an awareness-raising media day at the Ministry’s amphitheater, Pierre Choli, in the presence of professors and experts in the field.
The national vaccination campaign will begin today, and will continue throughout the fall and winter seasons. The Ministry of Health is keen to protect citizens, preserve their health, and avoid health complications, especially for fragile groups such as elderly people, those with chronic diseases, andPregnant womenAnd children.
In his speech delivered on this occasion, the Director General of Prevention and Health Promotion, Dr. Jamal Fourar, pointed out that seasonal influenza is an acute infection of the respiratory system that may be simple in most cases, but it may develop into serious complications in vulnerable groups, which makes vaccination the most effective and efficient means of prevention.
The Director General of Prevention and Health Promotion also stressed the necessity of renewing vaccination annually, given the periodic genetic changes that occur in the virus, which requires updating the vaccine with each season.
Dr. Jamal Fourar explained that this year’s seasonal influenza vaccine is manufactured locally by the “Saidal” complex, which reflects the national capabilities in producing vaccines and ensuring their regular availability. He also announced the provision of two million doses of the vaccine, which were distributed to vaccination centers affiliated with public health institutions, in addition to pharmacies across the national territory.
He also stressed the pivotal role of the media in supporting the efforts of the Ministry of Health, through effective contribution to awareness and sensitization campaigns about the importance of vaccination against seasonal influenza, simplifying health information for citizens, and urging target groups to take up vaccination at the appropriate time. He called on the national public and private media to continue accompanying this campaign by covering its activities and disseminating awareness-raising messages to ensure that it reaches the broadest segment of citizens.
♦️The Ministry of Health strongly recommends that the groups most at risk of complications receive the vaccine, namely:
-Persons aged 65 years and over,
-People with chronic diseases (heart, lung, diabetes, obesity, kidney disease…),
-People with weak immunity,
-Pregnant women,
-Health professionals,
The Ministry stresses that vaccination against seasonal influenza is an individual and collective responsibility to protect oneself and society, calling on all eligible citizens to get vaccinated as soon as doses are available at the health centers and pharmacies.
