Launch of the largest national afforestation campaign: five million trees in one day – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

The largest national afforestation campaign was launched this Saturday morning across the various states of the country, under the slogan “Green, God willing,” with wide participation from citizens.

A large number of volunteers flocked to the planting sites identified by the forest governorates, in a scene that reflects growing community awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and enhancing vegetation cover.

The campaign, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture through the General Directorate of Forests, in cooperation with the Green Algeria Association headed by Fouad Maala, aims to plant five million trees in one day. To this end, more than five million three hundred thousand seedlings were harnessed, distributed throughout the national territory.

The seedlings include several plant species, including 71 percent forest trees, 26 percent fruit trees, in addition to 3 percent of aesthetic seedlings. These varieties were selected according to a balanced approach that takes into account the environmental, economic and aesthetic aspects, taking into account the climatic characteristics of each region.

The process also includes planting one hundred thousand argan trees, to support biological diversity and value this variety of environmental and economic value, along with other varieties such as carob and olive.

The campaign witnessed the remarkable involvement of various public bodies, the military institution, and a number of economic institutions from the public and private sectors, in addition to associations and citizens.

The forestry sector, in coordination with local authorities and partners, harnessed significant logistical and human capabilities, including identifying afforestation sites, preparing areas, and digging the ground, to ensure the success of this national initiative.

This campaign comes as an extension of the positive dynamic that characterized the afforestation process on October 25, 2025, which resulted in the planting of more than one million and four hundred thousand trees, as part of continuing efforts to protect forest wealth and enhance green spaces.
