Launch of the final phase of the national polio vaccination campaign – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Today, Sunday, the third and final phase of the national polio vaccination campaign was launched, which extends from January 25 to 31, 2026.
This stage targets all children between the ages of two months and five years, including those who benefited from vaccination during the previous two stages, with the aim of strengthening individual and collective immunity and ensuring that Algeria continues to be free of this disease.
The injectable polio vaccine (VPI) has been part of the national routine vaccination program since 2015 and is characterized by a high degree of safety and effectiveness, with almost no side effects recorded.
The Ministry of Health confirmed the continuation of the comprehensive mobilization of medical and paramedical teams, and the harnessing of all human and logistical capabilities, in coordination with various local actors, to ensure the success of this stage in the best health and organizational conditions.
The Ministry also renewed its call to parents to take their children to the relevant health institutions during the specified period, in order to preserve the children’s health, enhance collective immunity, and protect society from this disease.
This phase comes as a continuation of the success achieved by the first and second phases of the campaign, where more than 3.8 million children were vaccinated, with high coverage rates of 95% in the first phase and 96% in the second phase, which reflects the great awareness of parents and the field efforts made by health professionals and all partners.
