Laqab: We will start naming the press centers in the stadiums with the names of sports journalists, starting next May 3 – Algerian Dialogue

Laqab explained, during a presentation he made before the Youth, Sports and Association Committee of the National People’s Assembly, that “in implementation of the set of measures taken by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the benefit of the national media, the launch of naming press centers in stadiums after sports journalists will begin on the occasion of the commemoration of… World Press Freedom Day falls on May 3 of every year.

He highlighted, by the way, the increasing “attention” paid by the national media to cover sporting events that attract great public interest because they attract a segment of youth, which exceeds 70 percent of society, which is an issue that calls for, added the Minister, “giving the necessary attention to the sports media.”

In this regard, he indicated that the national media system includes about 600 media institutions, most of which have sports editorial departments, in addition to the presence of 22 newspapers specialized in sports media, as well as 8 websites and a specialized television channel, indicating in the same regard that the “ES Setif” team has advanced By requesting the establishment of his own television channel, as well as the existence of the National Organization of Sports Journalists.

On the occasion, Mr. Laqab highlighted that the Ministry of Communications “ensures the improvement of the performance of the sports media,” recalling in this context the organization of a training course at the level of the Ministry’s headquarters, for the benefit of 50 sports journalists and presenters of news and television programs, belonging to public and private television channels.

He added that the media law “contains a clear and explicit article related to mandatory training for media institutions, which must set a special budget for this.”

In the same context, the Minister of Communication also mentioned the outcomes of the recently organized forum on “Sports Media and Journalistic Responsibility,” especially regarding the crystallization of several proposals and ideas aimed at improving sports media to a more professional level.
