Laqab stresses the importance of training journalists in economic fields – New Algeria

Stress Minister of CommunicationMohamed Laqab, today, Tuesday in Algiers, stressed the importance of training journalists in economic fields that require a certain level of accuracy, control, understanding, and the ability to simplify concepts.

When supervising the opening of a training course organized by the Ministry, Mr. Laqab, entitled “Economic Journalism and Data Analysis,” facilitated by the head of the economic department at the Qatari Al Jazeera channel, Hatem Ghandir, explained the importance of Training of journalists In the field of economics, in order to improve the national media’s handling of data issued by local and international bodies and institutions.

The minister pointed out that The media Economic figures are often reported without treatment, emphasizing the need to simplify concepts for readers, which, according to the minister, requires the journalist’s familiarity with the subject he is covering.

After adding that economic journalism differs from other types of journalism in terms of the way topics are dealt with, Al-Sayyed Laqab regretted that the press in Algeria “failed” in dealing with economic figures.

In this context, it was pointed out Minister With the experience that Mr. Ghandir has in the field of economic journalism, in addition to what he will pass on to the journalists participating in this training course, who represent the national public and private media outlets.

For his part, Mr. Ghandir reviewed during the training course, which included 60 journalists from various media institutions, ways to simplify financial and business reports, as well as the difference between economic news and general news, especially in terms of dealing with numbers.

The Minister noted that the large flow of data that the world is witnessing has brought about a change in journalistic practice, by moving towards providing all elements of the news briefly and in one go, unlike what was the case in the past, where the elements of the news were presented gradually.

The training focused on the techniques of dealing with economic data, and Mr. Ghandir’s experience in the field of economic journalism, which extends over more than 30 years, was presented.
