Khalif: “I underwent hormonal treatment to confront the false accusations.”

The Algerian Olympic boxing champion, Iman Khalif, revealed that she underwent hormonal treatment before participating in the Summer Olympics in Paris a year and a half ago.
Khalifa gave the French magazine “L’Equipe” a press interview, in which she revealed the details of her journey before and after the Olympic event.
I am a woman and I will always be that way
The boxing gold medalist in the category of less than 66 kg faced a campaign of accusations at the beginning of her journey in the Paris 2024 tournament.
International media outlets promoted lies that were exploited by female boxers competing with Khalifa in order to bully and confuse her, and the best evidence of this is what happened during her fight against Italian Angela Carini.
Khalif and Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting were accused of transgenderism during the Noble Art competition at the Olympics.
The Algerian woman was forced to make several sacrifices before the start of the sporting event, as she told L’Equipe magazine that she was working to reduce her testosterone levels.
Specialized doctors followed up on the athlete’s condition during her participation in the boxing tournament in Dakar, Senegal, which qualifies for the Paris Olympics, at the beginning of 2024.
Khalif did not deny the presence of the sex-determining Y-zone protein, or what is scientifically known as the “SRY gene,” in her body, which is a natural condition recorded in many females.
In her speech addressed to the French and international sports audience, Khalif emphasized her femininity by saying: “I was born a female and was raised as such, and I will remain this way. Everyone knows me well in my village.”
The champion welcomed the decision of the World Boxing Authority, which is responsible for organizing boxing competitions in the Olympic Games. The judge required her to undergo genetic tests before granting her approval to participate in international competitions.
In 2025, Khalif was excluded from international competitions due to the gender determination test introduced by “World Boxing”.
The athlete wrote to the international body after she passed medical tests, but she has not yet received a response.
Khalif is currently training in Paris, under the supervision of former French boxer John Duffy, who previously led the French national team to win six Olympic medals at the Rio 2016 Games.
