Tomorrow, Wednesday, Algerian workers will celebrate International Labor Day in light of historical gains that have strengthened the status of the working class, which continues to rise to challenges and contribute to improving the performance of the national economy and rallying around the reform path to build a new Algeria.
The positive roles of the active labor force emerged in completing the major workshops that were launched with the aim of diversifying the national economy, enhancing development efforts, and achieving the social well-being of the citizen. These are the roles that the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is keen to value every time, given his firm conviction that the human element is The basis of sustainable development and the foundation of wealth creation, which made it include improving the conditions of workers at the core of the state’s priorities.
This priority was embodied through several procedures and measures that benefited the working class in the context of improving the living framework, supporting purchasing power, and dedicating the principle of preserving the social character of the Algerian state, starting with raising the value of the guaranteed national minimum wage, abolishing the tax on people with limited income, raising wages, and grants and pensions.

The movement witnessed by the national economy in the recent period allowed the financing of wage increases and the approval of other increases recently announced by the President of the Republic, as after the decision to raise wages by 47 percent, the President of the Republic decided to complete the remaining percentage estimated at 53 percent until wages are raised by 100 percent within 2026-2027.

The President of the Republic also agreed to revalue pensions and retirement grants for the year 2024 for the benefit of beneficiaries of the retirement system for employees or non-employees, in view of the development of the standard of living. He highlighted the importance of maintaining social protection for this group that has provided a lot to the nation, directing the government to initiate in-depth studies to determine the level of The increases will be approved in a phased manner.

Among the gains achieved by workers were also the professional integration of contract holders into permanent work positions and the transformation of Social Inclusion Activities Agency contracts into indefinite-term contracts, which allowed the employment of more than half a million workers in permanent work positions.

In the same context, a holiday was created for employees to establish an institution and complete investment projects, as well as launching a new mechanism that enables citizens working outside the country to voluntarily join the national social security system and obtain the right to retirement.

In parallel with all these measures, the state was keen to promote social dialogue and frame union work in order to preserve workers’ rights, as the participation of union organizations in social dialogue at all levels became a democratic gain and a basic support for supporting growth and social stability.

In order to strengthen and frame this movement, a profound reform of the law related to the exercise of the right to trade unions was carried out in light of the gains enshrined by the 2020 Constitution in the field of promoting basic freedoms. The new law allowed for the strengthening of guarantees for the exercise of the right to trade unions and the introduction of many measures and mechanisms aimed at ensuring the independence and impartiality of trade unions and protecting them from Political and partisan tensions.

The results of the working class’ involvement in efforts to improve the national economy and their collective rally around the reform path initiated by the President of the Republic were evident through the solid performance of the economic sectors, which enabled achieving an economic growth rate of 4.1 percent in 2023 and raising the gross domestic product to reach $400 billion in the next few years. , according to figures previously announced by the President of the Republic and consistent with the expectations of international financial and economic bodies, which confirms that Algeria is on the right path and is heading towards becoming one of the emerging economies in the medium term.
