Hachishi supervises the complete restart of the Skikda refinery – Algerian Al-Hiwar

In his speech, Hachishi praised the success of the maintenance process of the Skikda refinery after its complete suspension since the third of May, with no fluctuations recorded in the national market, especially in diesel.
He also highlighted that the process of maintaining the Skikda refinery and its complete stoppage for several days was “very difficult, but the complex’s executives rose to the challenge of making it a success,” stating that directives had been given to mobilize all available energies, provide all necessary means for the process, and win the bet to avoid any possible fluctuation in the supply of fuel to the national market. Hachishi added that this process was taken with the utmost care and attention, given that the Skikda refinery contributes to supplying the national market with 67 percent of gasoline, especially diesel. He indicated that he will restart the second unit of the refinery today, Wednesday, according to the specified deadlines, after restarting the first unit. On May 21, “the production of diesel fuel will return to normal.”
The same official expressed his great pride and pride in all the refinery workers and those in charge of it, as well as the various partners, for the great professionalism they enjoy, especially since the operation was carried out with 100 percent Algerian hands and was crowned with complete success without any accident recorded.
On the other hand, Hachishi reported that the maintenance process of the Skikda refinery enabled the restart of the asphalt unit, which had been suspended since 2019, with a production capacity of 120 thousand tons annually, which will contribute to reducing the import of this material, of which Algeria’s needs reach 800 thousand tons annually.
According to the explanations provided on site, Skikda refinery officials, before the start of the maintenance process, stored 456 thousand cubic meters of diesel at the refinery level to supply the national market during its total shutdown period, which amounted to 25 days, in implementation of the precise work plan that was drawn up to maintain the refinery.
By the way, Hashishi inspected the Skikda Petroleum Port Expansion Project, which is of great importance because, upon receipt, it will work to increase the loading and unloading capabilities of various petroleum materials at the level of the Skikda Port, where the progress rate of its work has reached about 94 percent.
The President, General Director of the Sonatrach Group, also inspected the refinery after its restart, and inspected, with the natural gas liquefaction complex, a project to replace two (2) old tanks with a large tank with a capacity of 150,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, which will respond upon its receipt in June 2025 to the needs of the large ship shipping process. The work progress rate reached 29 percent.
