A ship carrying 11,700 sheep imported from abroad docked at the port of Bejaia, and will go directly to slaughter operations to provide red meat, ensure the supply of the market and meet the needs of consumers during the holy month of Ramadan.

This is the first batch of imported sheep, and it came just one day after the port of Bejaia received a shipment of calves imported from Brazil, estimated at 1,024 heads, destined to supply the university services sector.

All imported sheep will be subject to a period of quarantine and veterinary inspection before being gradually distributed to slaughterhouses, to ensure the safety and quality of the meat before reaching consumers during the holy month.

This arrival is the first of its kind during the year 2026 with regard to the sheep category, and comes only two days after receiving the first shipment of calves coming from Brazil.

The operation falls within the program to supply the national market with red meat, and is considered an important step to ensure the stability of supply and meet the needs of citizens across various regions of the country.

The Port Corporation of Bejaia also continues its commitment to supporting the national economy and ensuring the smooth flow of import and distribution operations to serve the consumer.
