Important projects on the government table – New Algeria

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Seifi Gharib chaired a government meeting devoted to studying several important files.
According to a government statement, the session began with the implementation of the program to develop and modernize the road network in the capital, and the government studied a draft executive decree that includes a public benefit declaration for the process related to the completion of a tunnel at the level of the municipality of Sharaga, Algiers Province. The completion of this tunnel, located in the place called “The Village” on National Road No. 41, and whose work is progressing at an estimated rate of about 60%, aims to reduce traffic congestion in this area and improve the flow of traffic between the areas of Sharaga, Bouchaoui and Ain El Benyan.
The government also listened to a presentation on the progress of the process of importing one million heads of sheep in anticipation of Eid al-Adha 2026. This measure, which was ordered by the President of the Republic, falls within the program to support citizens’ purchasing power, and aims to stabilize red meat prices and ensure the availability of sacrifices for Eid al-Adha.
For this purpose, the agricultural sector has concluded health and commercial agreements to ensure the best conditions for transporting and distributing sheep, especially in coordination with veterinary and customs departments to ensure compliance with health standards and traceability.
The government also listened to a presentation on the National Youth Plan 2026-2029, which falls within the framework of dealing with issues related to youth and accompanying their aspirations, as an embodiment of the commitments of the President of the Republic aimed at enhancing the role of youth as a fundamental axis in the path of comprehensive and sustainable national development.
This concerns an integrated and unified national framework, based on coordination of policies and programs directed at youth, with an evaluation mechanism based on performance indicators to measure the extent of achieving goals.
This national plan aims to prepare a generation of Algerian youth that enjoys independence, creativity, and effective participation in national development.
Within the framework of following up on the completion of major public projects, especially in the field of water security, the government reviewed the progress of the completion of the Sidi Khalifa Dam in the Tizi Ouzou Province, which is intended to provide drinking water to the northern region of the city of Tizi Ouzou and irrigate agricultural lands, as well as the preparation works for the Bouzina Dam in the Batna Province, which entered into service in June 2024, which ensures the provision of drinking water to the mountainous region of the Aures and the irrigation of agricultural lands, especially orchards and areas of fruit trees.
