Handball: A humiliating loss for Algeria against Egypt

The first national handball team was defeated by a full 14 points against Egypt in its first match for the main round of the African Nations Championship held in Rwanda.

Coach Saleh Boushkario’s squad found it very difficult to keep up with the African champions, who ended the match in their favor with a score of 42-28.

The differences in level between the two teams appeared from the first minutes, as the Algerian coach resorted to an early time-out to change the plan.

Ayoub Abdi’s teammates retreated to the defense to avoid conceding many goals, but the opposite happened, expanding the difference to seven goals (9-2) in the first seven minutes.

The Pharaohs won the first half in their favor with a score of 20-10.

The teammates of the star of the match, Yahya Omar (10 goals), maintained their lead at the start of the second half, as they extended the gap to 13 goals.

On the contrary, the national team did not correct its mistakes and continued to concede goals despite the brilliance of Mila goalkeeper Mohamed Bouziane (8 saves).

The team’s chances of qualifying are diminishing

After this defeat, the first national handball team is at the bottom of the table in the first group in the main round, without points.

For its part, the Egyptian national team is ahead of the rest of the group’s teams by goal difference (+13).

Angola defeated Nigeria in the first match with a score of 27-24.

The national elements need a victory by a large margin over the Angolan team, while waiting for Nigeria to fall to Egypt by a difference of no less than ten goals. In order to qualify for the semi-finals.

The national team aims to reach the semi-finals in order to ensure its participation in the 2027 World Championship in Germany.

It should be noted that the sudden loss against Nigeria in the first round complicated the task of coach Bushkerio.
